The Next-gen iManage Platform: The Foundation for Knowledge Work in an Agentic World
AI is transforming how work gets done, but every organization is moving at its own pace —from initial roll-out to embracing AI and driving pervasive use across their business. No matter which part of the journey an organization is on, success is based on more than what model you use. AI needs to understand your work: the matter history, the negotiated precedent, and the judgment behind every outcome. And, it needs to do that without asking you to loosen the governance your clients and business depend on.
This is what we’re building into the next-generation iManage platform. Now generally available, the next-gen platform ensures AI is grounded in trusted knowledge, enabled for safe and governed use, and connected to the tools your teams already use. The result is AI that can understand, act, and deliver value within the right controls.
What's new and what it unlocks
The next-gen platform brings AI natively into the flow of work, grounds outputs in your organization's own knowledge, and is built to work the way your teams already do. Here's a glimpse of what’s new:
Context-aware native AI capabilities: Ask questions about a single document or across an entire matter. Build chronologies. Analyze drafts against your approved playbooks. Run tabular review across hundreds of documents at once. All of it happens where the work already lives, with no switching between tools.
AI Enrichment: Classify documents and pull out key metadata automatically, so AI understands the type of agreement, jurisdiction, parties, governing law, and more. Content stays tagged, searchable, and governed without manual filing.
The iManage Context Fabric™: Understand the complete, connected story of every matter or project: the documents, communications, parties, and relationships. And enrich it with context from business systems like practice management and finance. The context fabric grounds AI in your institutional knowledge or prior work, whether in iManage or a connected AI tool.
Agent-optimized MCP — Search from any MCP-connected AI tool and iManage enriches the query to return more relevant results with fewer tokens, while respecting permissions, information barriers, and ethical walls.
A reimagined experience. The platform has a streamlined interface and simpler navigation. There's a customizable homepage, side-by-side document preview, and bulk document actions. Video and audio play in the preview pane with timestamped transcriptions, and matters, folders, and documents update in real time.
The result is AI that works from the full picture of a matter or project on a governed foundation your organization already trusts.
Governance matches how your organization works
The next-gen platform is built on the same governed iManage foundation you already run. Information barriers, permissions, audit trail, and lifecycle controls apply to every user and every AI action, matching what’s configured for each matter or project. That holds whether the work happens in iManage, M365, or through an integrated, connected AI tool like Harvey, Legora, Thomson Reuters, and more.
That includes agents too. Control what they're permitted to see, do, and touch, so you can deploy and scale agentic workflows with confidence.
And getting started fits how your teams already work. Your content stays where it lives. There's no migration and administrators can toggle it on and off.
Why this matters for practitioners, leaders, and IT
The next-gen platform brings AI into everyday work without trading away control.
Practitioners accelerate work from intake to final outcome, spending less time on routine tasks and more on negotiation, outcomes, and client counsel.
Firm and business leaders turn institutional knowledge, hard-won judgment, and deep client relationships into a lasting competitive advantage across every AI answer and output.
IT and innovation leaders move from AI potential to operational reality, with the security, governance, and connectivity to deploy agents in iManage or across the AI tools teams already use.
See it in action
The next-generation iManage platform is available today. It's built for where AI is heading: grounded in your knowledge, governed by your controls, and connected to your tools of choice.

Beyond the obvious: Why information barriers are important
Information barriers do far more than manage classic client conflicts—they underpin regulatory compliance, protect vulnerable clients, and govern people-driven risks like secondments and new starters. This post explores the full range of use cases and why firms should treat information barriers as core infrastructure rather than a narrow compliance checkbox.
Why information barriers are under more pressure than ever in the agentic AI era
As agentic AI reshapes how firms access and act on content, traditional information barriers face new pressure. This post explores why AI's growing autonomy is straining conflict management, privilege protection, and confidentiality controls—and what firms must do to keep governance aligned with client and regulatory expectations.
